Nationwide updates are being introduced to the Mega Millions game starting this weekend. The changes, set to roll out on April 5, 2025, feature an overhauled game format with larger prize options and a new ticket price of $5.
The revisions address player feedback desiring a wider distribution of prize money. As jackpots reach billion-dollar amounts, the new format aims to increase the number of winning participants. In addition to benefiting players, the changes will support Idaho's public schools and infrastructure.
Each ticket will now include an individual multiplier number ranging from 2X to 10X. Non-jackpot prize amounts will start at $10, offering the possibility of winning up to $10 million for those matching all primary numbers, excluding the Mega Ball.
The Idaho Lottery, which allocates funds to public schools and municipal structures, will see 35% of every ticket sale supporting Idaho's beneficiaries. In 2024, Mega Millions contributed approximately $9.8 million to the state's $84 million total dividend.
If no one claims the current $43 million jackpot, it will carry over to inaugurate the new game format. Players with winning tickets drawn before April 8, 2025, will have 180 days to claim prizes under the existing structure. Prizes from the April 8 draw onwards will follow the revised prize matrix.
Idaho Lottery has participated in Mega Millions since 2010, accumulating one jackpot winner and 16 players winning at least $250,000 to date. The game has also created eight instant millionaires in Idaho.
Mega Millions draws will continue on Tuesdays and Fridays at 9 pm Mountain Time, with the next draw occurring on April 8, 2025.
