The Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) will initiate intermittent nighttime closures on a section of Interstate 84 under the South Jerome Interchange, Exit 168. These closures, occurring through mid-April, are necessary for the formation and placement of bridge abutments that will support the new Lincoln Avenue bridges.
The scheduled work will begin next week, with closures taking place between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. The closures will impact both eastbound and westbound lanes on separate nights. Eastbound closures are anticipated on April 2, 3, and 9. Westbound lanes will be closed on April 6, 7, and 8. Affected eastbound and westbound traffic will be redirected via ramp detours during the closures.
"We encourages motorists to plan ahead for delays and drive with caution when traveling over these next couple of weeks in April," said Resident Engineer Seth Helms. "We want to thank everyone for their patience as crews work to place the bridge abutments as quickly and safely as possible."
Despite the closures, businesses will remain accessible via local roads, and detours will be available. Lincoln Avenue may experience some impact over I-84 during these periods, and alternate routes are advised. Weather conditions could potentially affect the schedule, and any changes will be communicated through email and updated on Idaho 511.
The closures are a part of the ITD's larger I-84 South Jerome Interchange replacement project, expected to be completed in 2026. Motorists should expect ongoing road closures, traffic deviations, and ramp adjustments for the project's duration.
