On May 7, 2025, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) will enforce its new regulations requiring all airline passengers aged 18 and older to present a REAL ID-compliant identification at security checkpoints. TSA identifies the compliant ID as the Star Card in Idaho, though other forms such as passports and state-issued Enhanced Driver's Licenses are also acceptable. TSA notes, "If you arrive at an airport without a Star Card or another acceptable document, you may be delayed and undergo additional examination. This can cause passengers to miss flights."

In Idaho, many DMV offices require appointments, which can be booked several weeks in advance. Travelers are advised to plan accordingly and visit any county driver's license office in the state for service. It can take up to two weeks for a physical card to be mailed. The Idaho Transportation Department provides resources on its website to help ensure individuals bring the correct documentation.

The list of other acceptable identification forms includes U.S. passport, DHS trusted traveler cards like Global Entry and NEXUS, Department of Defense IDs, and U.S. Merchant Mariner Credentials, among others. TSA emphasizes that travelers without a REAL ID or an alternative acceptable ID, such as a passport, may face delays or additional screenings and could be denied entry to the security checkpoint.
