Next week, as part of the Interstate 90 and State Highway 41 Interchange project, the access point for the westbound I-90 on-ramp will be moved north near Central Avenue. According to the authorities, "Shifting the on- and off-ramps will provide space for crews to continue working on the new center of the future interchange." This shift is expected to simplify the merging process for southbound traffic from SH-41 onto the on-ramp.

Due to this change, northbound SH-41 drivers will no longer have the option to make a direct left turn onto the westbound on-ramp. Instead, they will be directed to detour north to 16th Avenue, make a U-turn, and head south back to the new temporary on-ramp for westbound I-90. This detour will be in place through fall 2025.

Several other closures are part of the I-90/SH-41 Interchange project, including the continued closure of the westbound off-ramp until fall 2025 as crews build a new off-ramp and a single-point urban interchange. During this time, traffic is being diverted to the Seltice Way Interchange at Exit 6. Additionally, Central Avenue will remain closed through late fall for the widening of SH-41, affecting business access in the area.

Improvements to SH-41 and surrounding roads are part of this project, scheduled for completion by 2026. Further details and updates can be found on the project's website or by contacting the project's information channels.

In separate news, a pavement rehabilitation project on Spokane Street in the City of Post Falls will start on April 7. This will reduce traffic to one lane in each direction and will be executed in phases, during which there may be intermittent closures of the I-90 on- and off-ramps at Spokane Street.

The Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) and the City of Post Falls are coordinating to keep the public informed of the two independent projects and their impacts. Updates will be communicated through email, the Idaho 511 system, and ITD's social media channels. Interested parties are encouraged to register for these updates and follow ITD’s online communication platforms.
