In an effort to enhance efficiency and streamline processes, Mike Copeland from ITD's Construction & Materials division has introduced a new AI chatbot. With around 17 years of field experience, Copeland understands the difficulties in navigating extensive technical documents.

The AI-powered chatbot is designed to simplify access to information. Employees can input questions and receive concise answers with direct links to original sources, ensuring accuracy and saving time. This tool is particularly beneficial for handling repetitive queries that arise daily.

"With so much turnover and the constant evolution of processes, it’s easy to feel disconnected or overwhelmed by the sheer volume of information," Copeland states. "This tool changes that. It’s like having a knowledgeable assistant who’s always ready to help." A future feature under development aims to make the chatbot multi-modal, enabling it to process images and videos.

Currently, the chatbot is not available across all of ITD. However, as more employees become aware of this resource, its benefits are expected to increase. By reducing repetitive tasks and freeing up time spent searching for answers, teams can concentrate on critical projects and creative problem-solving.

Copeland's project highlights ITD's commitment to adapting with technology. "The pace of AI development is fast, but we’re doing everything we can to stay ahead. Tools like this help us work smarter, not harder," he adds.
