The Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) is set to hold an open house in Coeur d’Alene next week, aiming to present and discuss the proposed redesign of the Interstate 90 and U.S. Highway 95 Interchange. The event will take place on Wednesday, March 5, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., at the Best Western Plus Coeur d’Alene Inn.

This design initiative is part of Governor Little’s Leading Idaho project and marks the first interchange development stemming from the I-90 Corridor Study. The redesign seeks to expand the interchange, enhance safety measures, and improve mobility in anticipation of future traffic volumes that are projected to double by 2045. Public input has been sought through previous open house events held in 2022 and 2023.

Key features of the current proposal include a new single-point urban interchange, widening US-95, and grade separation between US-95 and Appleway.

For those unable to attend in person, ITD offers an online platform with equivalent information available starting March 5 at itdprojects.org/i90corridor. Feedback submitted online before March 19 will be reviewed by the project team.

“The I-90 and US-95 Interchange connects two of the most traveled, and most congested, roadways in the region," said ITD Project Manager Joey Sprague. "Adding capacity and improving mobility on the interchange and adjacent roads will help to alleviate congestion, reduce crashes, and shorten commutes.” He also noted that “the intersection at US-95 and Appleway has the most crashes of any intersection in North Idaho,” emphasizing that “the proposed design will increase both vehicular and pedestrian safety.”

Ahead of this public meeting, ITD is engaging with city officials, property owners, and local businesses for feedback on the design plans. To stay informed about this project or others along the I-90 corridor, interested parties can visit itdprojects.org/i90corridor for updates.
