Orofino, ID - The Clearwater-Potlatch Timber Protective Association (C-PTPA) is seeking two Area Fire Warden positions to direct its fire suppression and hazard management activities. The starting wage for these positions is between $22.50 and $32.78 per hour depending on qualifications and experience.

“Finding wildland firefighting leadership is a challenge nationwide, but C-PTPA offers a great work environment as well as quality of life opportunities,” said C-PTPA Chief Fire Warden Kane Steinbruecker. “Our fire district is hit hard by lightning storms each summer, so it is vital we are prepared to protect the timber and our communities with the strongest firefighting team possible.”

“I am hoping to see quality people from both Idaho and other states apply to join our wildland firefighting team,” he added. “It is tough but rewarding work and we have a great team where a good supervisor can help make a difference for Idaho’s forests and the people who live here.”

C-PTPA protects nearly a million acres of private, state and federal land and by contract with the Idaho Department of Lands, the Association essentially performs as a fire protection district within the state. The district falls within an area frequently hit by lightning storms. In the 2021 fire season there were 76 fires within the district and just under 10,000 acres burned. Mother nature was kinder in 2022 with 54 fires. Additional staffing kept it to just 30 acres burned.

Area Fire Wardens are assigned to a Fire Work Center and working under the Chief Warden, they are responsible for managing all aspects of the fire camp and the firefighters within that camp. Among the many supervisory responsibilities and duties, they function as an integral part of the Association’s leadership structure and assist the Chief Fire Warden in developing operating plans, setting and managing budgetary goals, and developing and implementing policy to help the Association better execute it mission.

Benefits include health, vision and dental insurance, PERSI retirement,

optional PERSI Choice 401k, life and disability insurance, paid sick and annual

leave as well as 11 paid holidays.
