The Economic Development Administration (EDA) issued one grant worth $2,271,953 in 2020 to fund economic development projects through opportunity zones in Idaho.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, opportunity zones were added to the tax code under The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017. The bill has come under some criticism for creating another big tax break for the ultra-wealthy.

The only project to receive EDA funding in the state was awarded to Idaho State University. A short project description is listed below.

"This EDA investment supports the Idaho State University with construction, renovation, and expansion of an existing infrastructure to establish the Onsite Power Generation and Systems Technical Education and Training Facility in Bannock County, Idaho, near a designated Opportunity Zone. The new technical education and training facility will offer courses on building, maintaining, and repairing power generation systems to help produce highly skilled technicians. The project will promote higher paying employment opportunities, promote economic diversification, and support economic growth throughout the region."
