Weight restrictions have been put in place on the Yankee Fork Bridge northeast of Stanley after a large hole developed last week. The Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) reported that the damage was caused by the failure of a previous patch on the bridge deck.
To prevent further deterioration, trucks crossing the bridge are now limited to 9.3 tons per axle, with overall weight limits set for larger vehicles. A speed reduction to 25 mph has also been implemented. Steel plates have been installed over the damaged area to keep traffic moving until repairs can be made. ITD staff will monitor these plates daily to ensure they remain secure.
“Last week, a hole developed in the deck of Yankee Fork Bridge due to the failure of a previous patch,” according to ITD.
Drivers are advised to watch for bumps created by the steel plates and exercise caution, particularly those towing trailers or riding motorcycles.
Repair work is expected to start within two weeks. During construction, traffic will be reduced to one lane and temporary signals will control alternating flow through the work zone.
Motorists are encouraged to use Idaho’s 511 system (https://511.idaho.gov/) for updates on traffic conditions and travel planning.
