The University of Idaho’s College of Art and Architecture will host the first Moscow Furniture Show on May 2 at the 1912 Center in Moscow, according to an April 25 announcement.
The event is intended to highlight student creativity and foster connections between students and regional design professionals. The show was organized after the annual Chair Affair Gala by Interior Designers of Idaho was postponed due to restructuring.
Tharique De Silva, assistant professor of interior architecture and design, said, “This exhibit allows for our program and instructional team to celebrate the hard work and successes of our students, while giving the students themselves the opportunity to demonstrate how their created pieces can invite conversation and connection.” De Silva added that each furniture piece requires a sensory response or component as part of this year’s theme. “This is exemplified by the theme of the furniture pieces requiring some form of sensory response or component — something we hope that the show’s visitors will enjoy interacting with.”
Furniture designed by third-year students in the Interior Architecture and Design Program will be displayed alongside works from local and regional designers. Attendees can vote for their favorite student designs in four award categories. The event also includes live music, local food and drinks, as well as raffle prizes supported by area businesses and design firms.
Admission is free for all members of the public. Design professionals who wish to exhibit built furniture pieces may do so for a small fee.
