Drivers on Interstate 90 over the Veterans Memorial Bridge in Coeur d’Alene will soon experience some weekend relief from lane closures as construction progresses. The bridge, a significant and busy route, is undergoing repairs as part of a larger project to maintain several bridges across the Panhandle.

The project, which began earlier this summer, has required full-time traffic control to ensure the safety of workers and equipment. However, with a key milestone reached, crews can now adjust traffic management. Starting this weekend, all four lanes—two in each direction—will reopen on weekends. Traffic control devices will be removed from Friday through Sunday evenings, returning the interstate to its regular configuration. Lane closures will resume during weekdays for ongoing work.

Some drivers have questioned why lanes remain closed when no activity seems visible. This is because much of the work occurs underneath the bridge using scaffolding and equipment hanging over the side to access repair areas.

The Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) anticipates completing the project by the end of August. Drivers are encouraged to stay alert for changing traffic patterns and remain patient as work continues.
