(Priest Lake, Idaho- 8/14/22) Lions Roar Fire Firefighters had a very successful day on the fire yesterday even as afternoon winds tested firelines. The Lions Roar Fire is now 75% contained with full containment expected by the end of shift today.

Once again, an Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) equipped with an infrared camera was used to locate and detect areas of heat in and around the fire this morning. This information will help fire managers and firefighting crews locate and extinguish hot spots near the handline and ensure mop up actions are successful. Crews will work to extinguish interior hot spots when safe to do so.

Today’s objectives will be to continue mop up operations. Occasional smoke will be visible as large internal fuels will smolder into the coming weeks. The North Idaho Type 3 Incident Management Team 2 begins transition command back to the local district this afternoon with the IDL area fire managers taking command at the beginning of shift tomorrow.

Winds will be calmer today as a high-pressure system moves in and daytime temperatures rise back into the highs 90’s accompanied by low humidity.

Weekend traffic will pick up as recreationist depart the Priest Lake area. East Shore Road will be busy – operators of oversized vehicles/campers/trailers/boats need to reduce speed, use caution on blind corners, and prepare for road debris.

Lion Creek Road #42 and Lucky Creek Road #43 will remain closed until further notice.
