U.S. Attorney Bart M. Davis announced on Apr. 7 that ten individuals have been sentenced to federal prison for their roles in a conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine throughout the Magic Valley area.
The case highlights ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to address drug trafficking in Idaho, with significant quantities of methamphetamine seized and multiple defendants prosecuted both federally and at the state level.
According to court records, the group possessed and distributed large amounts of methamphetamine, with over 30 pounds seized during the investigation. Some members traveled to Arizona and California to obtain drugs for distribution in Idaho. The most recent sentencing involved Oscar Alejandro Perez-Gomez, 33, of Jerome, who received a sentence of 292 months in federal prison followed by five years of supervised release from Chief U.S. District Court Judge Amanda K. Brailsford.
Other defendants received sentences ranging from probation up to more than twelve years in prison for various charges related to possession or distribution of methamphetamine and cocaine. Two individuals who are Mexican nationals will be deported after serving their sentences.
Nine additional people were prosecuted in Idaho state courts as part of the same investigation for crimes such as possession and trafficking in controlled substances. The investigation was led primarily by the Idaho State Police and Drug Enforcement Administration, with assistance from several local law enforcement agencies including sheriff’s offices, police departments, and prosecuting attorney’s offices across Twin Falls, Jerome, Cassia, Minidoka, and Blaine counties.
