The Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) has installed 32 new American flags on the Cloverdale Overpass, replacing those damaged by vandalism. These flags honor airmen who died in a crash in 2018. ITD is considering creating a permanent memorial at the site.

“Vandalism of this type is not typical in Idaho. Working with community members and the Boise Police Department, our crew took quick action to remove the damaged flags and replace them with new ones. Above all, we made sure the entire process was carried out with the utmost respect,” stated Dan McElhinney, ITD Chief Deputy Director.

ITD values military service and employs 167 veterans, over ten percent of its workforce. This commitment reflects their respect for those who have served.

American Legion Post 201 plans to hold a ceremony soon to retire the damaged flags properly.
