U.S. Senator Mike Crapo of Idaho announced on Mar. 23 his support for Senator Markwayne Mullin to become the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
Crapo said that strong leadership is needed at a time when the nation faces complex threats and emphasized the importance of restoring order and focusing on security priorities.
“At a time when our nation faces complex and evolving threats, strong leadership is essential to restore order and refocus the Department on its core mission—keeping Americans safe,” Crapo said. “Senator Mullin has been a consistent advocate for securing our borders and upholding the rule of law. He is well-positioned to lead the Department and will continue to build upon the successes of the Trump Administration to stop illegal immigration and safeguard the homeland.”
The Senate confirmed Mullin’s nomination by an unspecified vote count.
Crapo currently serves as chair of the Senate Committee on Finance, according to his official website. He has advocated for responsible forest management, tax reform, protection of natural resources, and assists Idahoans with federal agencies as reported by his official website.
Crapo grew up in Idaho Falls, earned a bachelor’s degree from Brigham Young University, followed by a Juris Doctor from Harvard Law School, according to his official website. He served three terms in the U.S. House representing Idaho’s Second Congressional District before joining the Senate as stated by his official website.
The confirmation marks a new chapter for leadership at Homeland Security amid ongoing national discussions about border security.
