Drivers using U.S. Highway 95 through Coeur d’Alene on Sunday should prepare for potential delays as the Idaho Transportation Department conducts road striping between Lancaster Road and the Spokane River Bridge. The work is scheduled to start at 6:30 a.m. and finish by 4 p.m.

The area is known for high traffic, with numerous intersections and signals, necessitating extra caution from drivers. The Idaho State Police will provide additional patrols to enhance safety. Drivers are advised to maintain patience, keep a safe distance from the paint crew, adhere to posted signs, and avoid crossing wet paint lines.

The striping schedule continues with Boundary County from July 21-28, covering US-95, SH-1, and US-2. From July 29-31, work will occur on SH-53 from the Washington state line to US-95. August 4-6 will see striping on SH-41 from Mullan Ave to Rathdrum, followed by US-95 from the Spokane River Bridge south to Sanders Road between August 6-18. Additional routes like SH-58 and SH-60 may be added if time permits.

Daytime striping is necessary due to light and warmth requirements for safe and effective application of paint. Nighttime conditions in North Idaho lack sufficient lighting for accurate line painting, and cooler temperatures can hinder proper drying.

Motorists are urged not to pass striping crews or drive over fresh paint as it damages both the lines and vehicles. Observing “wet paint” signs and pace cars helps protect workers and guide traffic flow.

The Idaho Transportation Department emphasizes that cooperation from drivers aids in completing this essential maintenance safely.
