WASHINGTON – U.S. Senators Jim Risch (R-Idaho) and Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) introduced a resolution celebrating the one-year anniversary of the Supreme Court’s ruling in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization. The resolution expresses a commitment to pursue legislation that protects unborn babies and supports new mothers and their children.

“One year ago, the Supreme Court rightfully overturned Roe v. Wade, ruling in favor of unborn babies and states’ interest to protect life at all stages of development,” said Risch. “While I celebrate this historic anniversary and achievement for the right to life, there is still much more that must be done to protect the unborn.”

“One year ago today, the Supreme Court made a historic decision in  Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, overturning  Roe v. Wade and returning the issue of abortion to the people. This was a victory for the unborn, and for the millions of Americans who long for the day when all human life will be protected under the law,” said Rubio. “As we mark this anniversary, I want to reaffirm my commitment to protecting the unborn and supporting families. There are still many states where abortion is legal, and we must continue to work to protect life across our country. I know that there is still more work to be done, but I am confident that we will continue to make progress in the fight for life.”

Senators Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-Miss.), J.D. Vance (R-Ohio), Roger Wicker (R-Miss.), James Lankford (R-Okla.), Roger Marshall (R-Kan.), Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.), Mike Lee (R-Utah), John Barrasso (R-Wyo.), Todd Young (R-Ind.), Ted Cruz (R-Texas), Markwayne Mullin (R-Okla.), Ted Budd (R-N.C.), and Josh Hawley (R-Mo.), Steve Daines (R-Mont.), and John Cornyn (R-Texas) also cosponsored the resolution.

On June 24, 2022, the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade with its ruling in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization. The ruling made clear there was no constitutional right to take the life of an unborn child and returned the power to regulate abortion to the people and their elected representatives. This was a historic achievement for unborn life.

Following the Dobbs decision, pro-life pregnancy centers across the United States became the target of violent attacks. To ensure these centers can continue to provide vital resources to mothers and protect the unborn, Senator Risch introduced the Pregnancy Center Security Act, which would establish a grant program to upgrade security equipment, including the installation of security cameras and systems.
