The United States House of Representatives passed the Fiscal Year 2027 Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies Appropriations Bill on May 15, with Idaho Congressman Mike Simpson voting in support. The bill provides full funding for veterans’ health care programs and benefits, supports military families, strengthens national defense, and aligns with Trump administration policy initiatives.

The passage of this legislation is significant as it aims to uphold commitments made to American veterans by ensuring they receive necessary health care services and benefits. The measure also includes provisions that protect the Second Amendment rights of veterans by preventing the Department of Veterans Affairs from sending information to the FBI about veterans without a judge’s consent.

“One of my top priorities in Congress is supporting our troops and veterans,” said Rep. Michael K. Simpson. “By fully funding veterans’ health care programs and benefits, investing in mental health services, prioritizing funding for military family housing, and so much more, this legislation fulfills our promises to those who have sacrificed so greatly for our country. This is a must-pass bill each year to honor the brave men and women who have courageously served.”

The appropriations bill was approved by a vote of 400 to 15 in the House. It also backs efforts by the Trump administration focused on improving mental health services and suicide prevention among veterans.

Mike Simpson has represented Idaho’s 2nd district in Congress since replacing Mike Crapo in 1999; prior to that he served in the Idaho House of Representatives from 1984 through 1998 according to the U.S. House of Representatives. Born in Burley, Idaho in 1950, Simpson graduated from Utah State University with a Bachelor of Science degree according to the Biographical Directory of the United States Congress.

The funding package will now move forward for consideration by the Senate.
