Nighttime closures are set to begin this weekend on Franklin Road between Star and McDermott roads as part of ongoing construction for the future State Highway 16 and Franklin Road Interchange, according to the Idaho Transportation Department. The closures will allow crews to install eight steel girders, each weighing about 184,000 pounds, which will serve as horizontal support beams for the new bridge.
The road will be closed nightly from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m., starting Saturday, November 8, and continuing throughout November. During these times, traffic will be rerouted via Cherry Lane.
Upon completion, the new interchange will enable State Highway 16 traffic to pass over Franklin Road without stopping. The interchange is scheduled to open along with the rest of the SH-16 corridor in 2027.
Motorists can find more information and sign up for updates at itdprojects.idaho.gov/pages/sh16corridor or by calling 208-334-8008. The Idaho Transportation Department advises drivers to allow extra travel time at night and check 511.idaho.gov or use the mobile app for current restrictions and delays.
