Idaho Track and Field announced on April 15 that its athletes will participate in four separate meets across California this weekend. Most of the team will head to Long Beach for the Pacific Coast Invitational on April 16, followed by the Beach Invitational on April 17-18. Other groups of athletes are scheduled to compete at the Bryan Clay Invite in Azusa from April 16-18 and at the Leopard Invitational in La Verne on April 16-17.
The events in Long Beach will see a full schedule for Idaho competitors, including notable performances expected from the women’s 4×100 meter relay team. After multiple gold finishes earlier this outdoor season, Ashley Hollenbeck Willems and her teammates are set to race both Thursday and Saturday. The Willems duo along with Marsh are also entered in the 100 meter and 200 meter sprints throughout the weekend, while Madden is slated for several appearances in the 400 meter events. On the men’s side, sophomore sprinters—including JaRae Long—will represent Idaho in both short sprint distances.
Field event participants from Idaho include graduate students competing in women’s long jump and triple jump, as well as sophomores entered into high jump competitions. Additional athletes to watch include throwers participating in shot put and hammer throw events for both men’s and women’s teams.
At Azusa’s Bryan Clay Invitational, Idaho’s women steeplechase runners are set to compete, with one athlete running in open competition while another races in an invitational section of the steeplechase event. The Third Annual Leopard Invitational will feature an Idaho runner competing individually in the women’s 800 meters.
Looking ahead, Idaho Track and Field plans to travel across the Palouse next week for participation at Pullman’s Cougar Classic scheduled for April 24-25.
