The Idaho Transportation Department’s Office of Highway Safety (OHS) is urging drivers to reduce their speed as law enforcement agencies across the state increase speed patrols this month. This initiative will occur from July 20 to July 26 and is part of a larger regional campaign in collaboration with neighboring states Washington, Oregon, Montana, and Alaska. Drivers should anticipate a heightened law enforcement presence throughout the Northwest during this period.
“Speed limits are not suggestions—they’re there to save lives,” stated Josephine Middleton, ITD Highway Safety Manager. “Slowing down gives you more time to react and reduces the severity of crashes.”
So far in 2025, 126 people have died on Idaho roads, an increase from 113 at this time last year. During the “100 Deadliest Days” between Memorial Day and Labor Day, Idaho has recorded 49 fatalities in 2025 compared to 40 during the same period in 2024.
Drivers are reminded to adhere to posted speed limits, allow extra travel time, and adjust their speed according to weather and traffic conditions.
