The Idaho Vandal men’s golf team will face Boise State on April 20 and 21 in the third annual Battle for Idaho at Hillcrest Country Club.
This event is important as it determines statewide bragging rights between the two university teams. Both teams are closely matched, with Idaho ranked 134th and Boise State ranked 123rd in the Scoreboard Rankings entering the weekend.
The competition will follow a six-count-four format, featuring two rounds on Monday and one round on Tuesday. The course measures 6,810 yards with a par of 71. The Vandals recently finished second at Chambers Bay, marking their third top-three finish this season. Both Idaho and Boise State have secured two team wins and three top-three finishes during this season.
Boise State announced that Cole Rueck, last year’s Mountain West Player of the Year, has left the team after qualifying for PGA Tour Americas. Rueck competed in Brazil at the ECP Brazil Open where he finished 55th and made his first professional cut.
For this dual meet, McCartain will play as Idaho’s No.1 golfer while Johnson is set to compete in the second spot. Other lineup positions include spots three through five filled by additional team members. Tee times start at 7:30 a.m. Pacific Time with pairings set every nine minutes.
In previous years, each school has won once: Idaho took victory in the inaugural event in 2024 while Boise State claimed last year’s title.
