U.S. Congressman Russ Fulcher announced on May 15 that he voted to advance H.R. 8469, the Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act of 2027 in the House of Representatives.
The bill is described as a measure that supports veterans and active-duty military personnel by funding healthcare programs, improving facilities, and strengthening services for families. The legislation also includes provisions aimed at protecting veterans’ rights and enhancing mental health resources.
“Having the backs of those who serve—and those who have served—our nation must always remain a national priority,” said Congressman Fulcher. “I have voted in favor of the MilCon-VA appropriations bill, the first appropriations bill to pass the House for Fiscal Year 2027. This legislation champions our Veterans and servicemembers by prioritizing improvements at VA Medical Facilities, fully reauthorizing Veterans’ healthcare programs and benefits, and strengthening military housing and childcare services for active-duty personnel and their families.”
According to details released with Fulcher’s statement, the act will fully fund veterans’ health care programs and benefits; prioritize improvements at VA medical facilities as well as four national cemeteries; protect Second Amendment rights by preventing information sharing about veterans without judicial consent; support efforts to improve mental health care; prohibit purchases from Communist China; among other measures.
Russ Fulcher is currently serving in Congress representing Idaho’s 1st district after replacing Raúl Labrador in 2019 according to U.S. House of Representatives. He has served since then after previously being a member of the Idaho Senate from 2005 to 2014 according to U.S. House of Representatives. Born in Boise in 1962, Fulcher resides in Meridian according to U.S. House of Representatives.
The passage of this appropriations act marks an early step toward setting priorities for veteran care funding next fiscal year.
