A federal grand jury in Boise has indicted Charles Thomas Abrahamson, 56, of Venice, Florida, on charges of wire fraud and tax fraud. The announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Bart M. Davis.

According to the indictment, Abrahamson worked for a nonprofit veteran’s organization with a department in Idaho between 2017 and 2024. He held positions including adjutant and commander, which gave him access to the organization’s financial accounts. The indictment alleges that from around 2018 to April 2024, Abrahamson engaged in a scheme to defraud both the nonprofit and another individual by transferring funds from the nonprofit’s accounts to his personal accounts, making payments to his personal credit cards, covering unauthorized expenses, and withdrawing cash for personal use.

The indictment further alleges that Abrahamson filed false tax returns for the years 2020, 2022, and 2023 by misrepresenting his total income.

It is also alleged that Abrahamson obtained at least $1,454,025 in unrecovered forfeitable property through these activities.

If convicted on all counts, Abrahamson could face up to 20 years in federal prison for wire fraud and up to three years for tax fraud. He may also be required to pay restitution for losses suffered by victims. Sentencing will be determined by a federal district court judge who will consider the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines along with other statutory factors.

U.S. Attorney Davis stated: “U.S. Attorney Davis made the announcement and commended the excellent work of the Internal Revenue Service – Criminal Investigation, which led to the charges.” Assistant United States Attorney Sean Mazorol is prosecuting this case.

Authorities remind that an indictment is only an allegation; all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
