Washington, D.C.–U.S. Senator Mike Crapo (R-Idaho) issued the following statement commemorating Memorial Day 2023:

“At home in the United States, and elsewhere across the globe, American servicemembers have fought to protect our country from those wishing to do us harm.  They have also served in times of peace to rebuild communities wrecked by natural disasters and maintained our nation’s infrastructure.  America’s servicemembers have facilitated democracy in other parts of the world.  They have completed their tasks with grit, determination and courage.

“Unfortunately, many have paid the ultimate sacrifice.  Memorial Day is a time to recognize and reflect on our fallen American heroes.  It is a solemn reminder that no day is guaranteed, and no freedom we exercise too small.

“Our nation has been blessed with peace and prosperity, paid for by a price we cannot repay.  May we continue to uplift their families, friends and loved ones in each of our own communities and strive to exercise the freedoms for which they died in our daily lives.  God bless the fallen.”
