Chris Fredericksen has been named the new General Manager of Idaho Falls Power and Idaho Falls Fiber, with his appointment pending confirmation by the City Council, according to an April 16 announcement.
The appointment is significant for the community as it ensures continued leadership for the city’s electric utility, which is responsible for providing reliable and affordable power to residents. The decision comes after nearly a year with Stephen Boorman serving as Interim General Manager.
Mayor Lisa Burtenshaw said, “Director Fredericksen has the vision, knowledge and experience to ensure IF Power continues its tradition as a cutting-edge utility, while focusing on workplace safety and excellent customer service.” She also thanked Boorman for his work during the transition: “Stephen has done an incredible job as the interim general manager. His knowledge of the public power system and city administration have been crucial during this transition.”
Fredericksen brings over twenty-five years of experience in public service and infrastructure development. He has served as Public Works Director for thirteen years in Idaho Falls and previously worked at the Idaho Transportation Department. He holds a degree from Idaho State University and is a licensed professional engineer.
Mayor Burtenshaw highlighted Fredericksen’s background: “His experience and leadership style will complement the existing team at Idaho Falls Power and position the utility for continued growth and success.”
Fredericksen said he looks forward to leading innovation at Idaho Falls Power: “I am looking forward to this new role and continuing the innovation and work ethic that exists at our city power company. Idaho Falls Power is the standard for what every city electric utility should look like, and it will remain a power player in the West. Our customers can continue to expect low rates, reliable power and great customer service.”
The City Council will consider Fredericksen’s appointment at its meeting scheduled for April 23.
