The City of Burley announced on April 28 a youth essay contest in celebration of America’s 250th anniversary. The contest invites young people to write an original essay in the form of a letter to a Founding Father, focusing on themes such as freedom, courage, unity, and progress.

Organizers say the competition aims to encourage local youth to reflect on important values that shaped the nation. Participants are divided into two age categories: ages 12-14 and ages 15-18.

Prizes will be awarded for each category. First place winners will receive $250, second place $100, and third place $50. Essays must be submitted by June 21 at 11:59 p.m.

Those interested can enter by visiting burleyidaho.org or by submitting their entry through the provided online form. The prompt encourages participants to share their thoughts directly with historical figures who played key roles in American history.

The city hopes this event will inspire meaningful reflection among young residents as part of its observance of the nation’s milestone anniversary.
