The Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office announced on May 16 that deputies are investigating a fatal two-vehicle crash that occurred at the intersection of 5th West and 81st North, north of Idaho Falls. The incident happened around 12:30 p.m. on May 15 and resulted in one death and two hospitalizations.

According to the sheriff’s office, emergency personnel responded to the scene where they found both vehicles involved and three people injured. Deputies said a Chrysler van was traveling south on 5th West when it was struck by a Toyota Corolla heading east on 81st North after failing to yield at the stop sign.

Idaho Falls Fire and Ambulance transported a 72-year-old female passenger from the van and a 20-year-old male driver of the Toyota to the hospital with significant injuries. Deputies reported that CPR and emergency aid were administered to Doyle Barney, age 74, of Bonneville County, who was driving the van; however, he died at the scene from his injuries.

The investigation involved assistance from Idaho Falls Fire Department, Idaho Falls Police Department, and Idaho State Police. Authorities have not released further information as the investigation is ongoing.

The sheriff’s office stated no additional details are available at this time while they continue their investigation into what led up to this incident.
