The Boise State women’s tennis team will finish its regular season with a match against Utah State in Logan on April 17. The Broncos are currently tied for first place in the Mountain West Conference standings along with San Diego State and UNLV. A win would secure at least a share of the regular-season title, which would be a first for the program.
This matchup is important because it could mark a historic milestone for Boise State, as they aim to claim their inaugural regular-season conference championship. The outcome may also affect seeding and momentum heading into postseason play.
Utah State enters the contest in sixth place within the conference and has an overall record of 11-9. The Aggies have been successful recently, winning four out of their last five matches. However, Boise State holds a strong historical advantage over Utah State, leading the all-time series 38-4 and having won six consecutive meetings between the teams.
Boise State is ranked No. 60 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings and No. 45 by UTR Sports collegiate team rankings. This season, they have swept eleven opponents—six of those wins coming against Mountain West rivals—which is their highest total since joining the conference in 2011-12. They have also won eight straight road matches this year.
Head coach Beck Roghaar became Boise State’s all-time winningest coach earlier this season with his 182nd career victory and now has 193 wins entering this weekend’s match. Roghaar was named both Mountain West Coach of the Year and ITA Mountain Region Coach of the Year for last season, making him only the second coach in program history to receive regional recognition.
Several players have earned individual honors: Zdena Safarova has received three Mountain West Player of the Week awards this year (and seven overall), while Carla Grignac was recognized as both Player and Freshman of the Week after her performance against Washington—a rare feat achieved by only two players in program history.
