Boise State women’s tennis team received both Mountain West weekly awards, with Zdena Safarova named Player of the Week and Carla Grignac earning Freshman of the Week honors, according to an April 15 announcement from the conference.
The recognition highlights a strong season for Boise State, as Safarova and Grignac became the third pair from a Mountain West program to sweep these weekly awards this year. The achievement marks Safarova’s third Player of the Week award this season—a conference high—while Grignac collected her second Freshman of the Week honor.
Safarova had a standout weekend by winning all four matches she played in No. 1 singles and doubles. She secured Boise State’s narrow 4-3 victory over Air Force by coming back after losing her first set to win 5-7, 6-1, 6-2. She also claimed a straight-set win against New Mexico at No. 1 singles and lost only four games across two doubles victories.
Grignac contributed three wins over the weekend: two in No. 6 singles—both in straight sets—and one at No. 3 doubles alongside partner Lorelyz Marruffo against New Mexico.
Looking ahead, Boise State will play its final match of the regular season on April 17 in Logan, Utah against Utah State at 11 a.m. Mountain Time. A win would secure at least a share of the Mountain West regular-season championship for the Broncos.
