Boise State Athletics announced on Apr. 20 that head football coach Spencer Danielson has agreed to a contract extension through the 2030 season, pending final approval by the Idaho State Board of Education.

The extension follows Danielson’s leadership in guiding Boise State to its third consecutive conference championship. Since taking over as interim head coach near the end of the 2023 season, Danielson has led the Broncos to a record of 24-8 across two-plus seasons. His tenure includes achieving a top-10 national ranking and an appearance in the College Football Playoff in 2024, along with a strong home record and three straight conference titles.

By winning the Mountain West title in 2025, Danielson became only the second coach—alongside Lincoln Riley at Oklahoma—to secure three consecutive Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) conference championships in his first three seasons as head coach.

“Spencer is elite, and we’re so happy to have him continuing to serve our football program as its head coach,” said Jeramiah Dickey, Boise State Director of Athletics. “He leads with his heart and cares deeply about our student-athletes as young men, all the while still raising the bar for our competitive excellence each year. He surrounds himself with the right staff and student-athletes, and he is a servant leader which shines through every day. We’re grateful for him and excited to have him as the leader of Boise State football and our community for years to come.”

Danielson said, “Boise is home for my family, and we’re proud to represent this football program, university, community, and state through the role I have as the leader of Boise State football.” He added gratitude toward players and staff: “I’m thankful for the players and staff who make this program great every day… The people at Boise State show my family each and every day why we want to be here.”

The upcoming season will mark Danielson’s tenth year on Boise State’s coaching staff since starting as a graduate assistant in 2017. He joins four other coaches from school history who won at least twenty out of their first twenty-five games leading Boise State.

Danielson was recognized with several honors after his initial full season leading Boise State: MW Coach of the Year (2024), AFCA Region 5 Coach of the Year, Grant Teaff Coach of the Year; he was also a finalist or semifinalist for additional national awards after guiding his team into playoff contention.

Looking ahead, Danielson will lead Boise State into its opener against Oregon on Sept. 5 before returning home against Memphis on Sept. 12; full schedule details are expected later this spring.
