Bart M. Davis has been sworn in as the United States Attorney for the District of Idaho. He was nominated by President Donald J. Trump on March 31, 2025, and confirmed by the U.S. Senate on October 7, 2025. Davis previously served as the U.S. Attorney for Idaho from September 21, 2017, to February 28, 2021, during President Trump’s first term.
As the U.S. Attorney, Davis is now the chief federal law enforcement official in Idaho. He is responsible for prosecuting federal crimes across the state’s 44 counties, which cover more than 83,000 square miles and have a population of nearly 1.5 million people. Davis oversees three offices located in Boise, Coeur d’Alene, and Pocatello, with a staff of 65 employees, including 33 attorneys. The office prosecutes federal crimes such as those related to immigration, terrorism, public corruption, child exploitation, firearms, and narcotics. It also defends the United States in civil cases and collects debts owed to the federal government.
Davis was born in Rapid City, South Dakota, and raised in Idaho Falls, Idaho. He began his legal career focusing on commercial, regulatory, and transactional work. Davis served for 19 years in the Idaho State Senate, including 15 years as Majority Leader. He was also a member of the Judiciary and Rules and the State Affairs committees. Additionally, he represented Idaho as a commissioner to the Uniform Law Commission and served as chairman of The Council of State Governments. Davis graduated from Brigham Young University in 1978 and from the University of Idaho College of Law in 1980. He is married with six children and fourteen grandchildren.
